Why are you photographing s.e.l.f. portraits?

s.e.l.f. portraits are our passion, because we have seen the dwindling self-confidence of individual women in difficult situations or even just living day-to-day. It is our belief that:

You are you. You are the only you in the entire world. You are the only you that ever was and that ever will be! You are unique, and you were created to shine brightly.

Start with you. Be your best you. Then go out and change the world!

Is the photographer a man or a woman?

Because these portraits are ladies only, it makes sense that the photographer is a woman.

Actually, we are a husband and wife team, with me (the wife) doing all of the s.e.l.f. portrait shooting. My husband does a great deal of our portrait and wedding work, but he is not involved in the s.e.l.f. portrait aspect of our photography studio.

Are you going to use my images in your advertising? I consider them private, and I don’t want everyone to see me.

We’d love to show your images to our potential clients! But you can rest assured that we will never use your images without your permission. So that you are most comfortable, you choose how we may use your images. For example: select “no advertisement” and we will not show ANY of your images to ANYONE. Select “women only” and we will show your images only to women. Select “anonymous” and we will only show images in which your identity is not revealed (no face).

That said, we only post s.e.l.f. portrait images on our blog, facebook page and twitter, and we only use ANONYMOUS images there with your permission.

What do I get? I don’t want to hang a 30 by 40 picture of me naked on my living room wall.

We have found that our clients prefer a beautiful, leather-bound album of their images. This gives them the opportunity to view their images in private and to share them when appropriate. Additionally, we have lovely wall art available for those who would like it.

Your actual s.e.l.f. portrait session includes your pre-session consultation, hair and makeup, 3 20-minute sessions/wardrobe selections, and your album of 20-40 carefully chosen, artfully edited images.

What should I expect?

We will be here for you every step of the way. During your pre-session consultation, feel free to bring up anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or any insecurities that you have. We are glad to talk to you about your wardrobe selections, give you suggestions of where to purchase clothing (yes, even on a budget!) and help you shop the cheapest store of all: your closet. Keep in mind that your hands and feet will probably show in many of the images. It is best to keep nails natural unless you have a signature look. Sometimes, a client will try to match an image from a magazine or catalog. We love to do this! Your image might not match the target image exactly, but we can achieve a similar look through individual-specific posing. Most sessions take about 2 hours. When you arrive, you will spend a few minutes relaxing in the hair and makeup chair, and then you will finalize your looks for your session. Once you’ve changed in the privacy of your dressing room, you will wear a robe into the camera room. After all of our extensive preparation for your session, this is where the magic happens. Trust us to accentuate your assets while minimizing those features that make you feel insecure.

What should I wear?

That depends. What makes you feel your absolute best? Maybe you have a piece of lingerie in the back of your top drawer that you love, but that you haven’t thought of wearing for a while. What about a man-style shirt and a fedora? Or Daisy Dukes and a plaid shirt tied at the waist? This session is all about you. We want you to feel comfortable…like yourself. We just want to remind you of how great you really are.

I’m not really a frou-frou, girly-girl.

I would encourage you to think about what makes you feel truly powerful. Do you have a favorite leather jacket and pair of jeans? Are you proud of your body art? What about a jersey from your favorite team? We’d love to capture the special touches that make you feel your best and showcase them for you.

I’m not comfortable being naked in front of people.

That’s perfectly fine. As a matter of fact, we’d rather not see you naked. We make sure that nothing is showing either in your images or during the session. We have suggestions for what you should wear to stay covered and still have great images.

I’m not shaped like a model.

Neither am I! And, as I’m sure you know, neither are most women. I’m 5’2” and 225 pounds, and I like to say that I’m in shape; round is a shape. We have worked to perfect poses that are appropriate for different body shapes, taking into account each woman’s favorite attributes and what she feels insecure about. I’ll be happy to show you my book (my personal pictures) so you can see some of the poses that work best for my body type, and we can work together to find your best look.

How about a s.e.l.f. portrait party?

Why not get 3-6 of your very best girlfriends together to have a s.e.l.f. portrait party? It's a great idea for a bridal shower or a girls' night out!

You provide a few refreshments and the location; either at a private home, or some ladies like to go all out and rent a suite at a luxury hotel. We'll provide our hair and makeup artist and photographer.

Everyone can bring some of their favorite outfits to wear and share; think high-heeled shoes, boots, leather jackets, jewelry, and maybe a few other items that you don't mind sharing. Each session is private, and each lady can choose up to 2 outfits, changing her look with robes, jewelry, etc. for each outfit if time permits.

The individual investment of only $150 ($100 off the regular s.e.l.f. portrait price of $250) includes a beautiful folio of 2-8 images. We will assist you in choosing the very best images for your folio.


3 participants: $450/about 2 hours
4 participants: $600/about 2.5 hours
5 participants: $750/about 3 hours
6 participants: $900/about 3.5 hours

I don’t want to do porn!

GOOD! We don’t want to do porn either! We want to accentuate your very best features and bring out the playful side of you. Our goal for your session is for you to be empowered. It’s all about confidence. We don’t do nudity, and we make sure nothing is showing. Think of it more as a shoot for a lingerie catalog.

Valentine's Day Introductory Special

The purpose of s.e.l.f. portraits

Consider the Song of Solomon. A beautiful, Biblical example of love poetry, it serves as a reminder of the love that God has for us, his church. It also showcases the love that men and women experience through marriage. The author uses lovely, romantic imagery to describe the physical relationship between a husband and wife.

It is in this same vein that we offer our s.e.l.f. portraits. We believe that every woman has been created to be a beautiful work of art, both inside and out. Like the woman from Proverbs 31, women today take on many different responsibilities. Career, family and charity work fill her days. Sometimes, though, a hectic schedule takes its toll on her. She forgets her own value and importance, and this can adversely effect her relationship with her husband.
